Sarah is a portrait based on Gerhard Richter’s Betty. In Sarah, a contemporary woman looks away from the viewer and out toward an abstracted ocean. Because the protagonist’s face is entirely obscured, the viewer identifies with her and her experience of gazing outward to the landscape beyond.
